Half Marathon in DC with Rebecca

So since I have decided to get into running a bit, I thought I would test my skills in a half marathon to see how I would do. With the support of my sister and my fellow travelling partner, we hit up the 2nd annual National Marathon in Washington DC. I signed up in early January which would give me close to three months of training. January was pretty good but I kind of took the month of February off. I also ran into some knee problems with my old shoes so I had to get some new ones. I didn't think that would make a difference but it certainly did. I was back on the mic and ready to rock. After building up my long runs and cashing in 10.5 miles in Vegas last week, it was officially go-time! Rebecca flew in on Friday afternoon and we carb'd up at Maggiano's last night to get fully prepared. She was not the most prepared but gave it a go anyway. We finally got to bed a little before midnight after Rebecca pounded half a bag of Cadbury chocolate eggs. I slept on the couch and was awaken at 4:15 to Colton's alarm clock. After that not going off, I went into my room and slept on the floor but failed to fall asleep until our alarm went off at 5:00. We got all ready and hit the road. It was a misty rain and a little chilly. We got lost on our way there and literally parked the car five minutes before the sound of the gun. We passed the Capitol, Washington Monument and other such buildings. When it was all said in done, we finished the race without stopping. Click here for the results and a course map!

We came home and feasted at Cheesecake Factory as I had a slice of Linda's Fudge Cake and we came home and crashed. All in all it was a fun race and was to check that off the list of things to do. Who knows, this may lead to a full marathon!
